Thought
Friction, sparks blow inflame
From Prometheus’s stealth came
Coaxed from dry sticks dead
Red to blue and orange spread
Come sit, eat and drink by fire
Great tales tell that will inspire
Crafted fingers slowly thawed
Glowing goodness outpoured
Forgetful of warm kindly host
Rebels in faith burned at post
Whole cities bombed and burnt
Lessons from the fire unlearnt
Let fiery whims to souls ignite
Storming bastille’s freedom’s fight
Raging fire of love from sparks
Consuming scorching selfish marks
(In memory of 1920 burning of Cork City)
Prayer
O Lord light the burning fire of love in me for Thee that all egocentric desires be consumed and eradicated without a trace. Leave nothing behind Lord that I may be wholly Thine.
