Thought
To small children please tell
Without magic wand or spell
That from a stick so cold to touch
When on box struck flame will rush
Infant attention easily deployed
Clapping hands their overjoyed
Wide open eyes and mouths urge
“Repeat the trick when sparks emerge”
But explain that one condition’s set
Matchsticks must be dry not wet
So mind too must be pure as snow
For your fire to kindle and to glow
Prayer
O Lord I am only Thy child and just as a child understands the simple lessons given well, make my mind simple and pure. May I be mindful of Thy hidden glory manifest in every action, even that of striking a match to light a lamp.
