Thought
Pitiable one forsaking duty
Or recluse attached to world.
Work’s joy in action’s beauty
The hermit’s life disentangled.
Pitiable one forgoing penance
Developing tastes for luxury
Or those harbouring grievance
Against imaginary enemy.
Pitiable in every respect is he,
Who heartless others harm,
Who cherishes his own body,
And fails in inward calm.
Pity not for glorious life gone,
But for those living suffering
Who gave not their all for one,
Radiating a constant blessing.
(Adapted from Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas)
Prayer
O Lord of constant blessing grace, extinguish my desires that only one may remain for Thee. Grant that I may find the joy of service and in movement as well as those timeless encounters in my soul. May all be happy, peaceful, and blissful in and through Thee.
