Thought
Whispers wandering across a sky
Like sundry thoughts floating by
Fond memories and wistful sighs
Covering truth that dream belies
Solid world of rocks and stones
Aims and goals and golden thrones
For a few minutes will bemuse
Till death arrives and these we lose
The lord of death said please behold
Of wealth and land to you be told
Offers for which men strive so hard
Discerning ones will soon discard
Faith and sense demands to know
What tempting offers fail to show
That steady one that changes not
When whispery wanderings forgot
Prayer
O Lord, many temptations and desires beset the mind, instead of squandering your gift of time with these, let me embrace your gift of discernment that dissolves them quickly. I lovingly accept your gifts of faith, hope and love that dispel cravings and selfishness.
