Thought
Great skill in building ships
For expeditions to unknown
Arms that pull the oars along
Must be united muscled strong
Great faith in self and winds
To ride the monster waves
Charting brand new territory
On vessel reeling in the sea
Great love of the waters deep
Whose temperament none predict
Against mouth poised to overthrow
Adventurers’ work to sail and row
Great contrast glassy icy fjords
That yield to oceans vast and free
What lies beyond horizon’s edge?
Discoveries are resolved in pledge
Great these gifts and qualities
Applied to every moment seized
Mobilised not for greed or piracy
But acquiring heights of courtesy
Prayer
Thou art great and yet closer than breathing. Grant that I may unreservedly adventure with no map, compass or guiding light except Thee. For You have placed greatness in me in order to reflect the greatness in Thee.
