Thought
Sinking sun at close of day
Busy leaves dance randomly.
Whispered breeze and branches sway
Flying birds are tucked away.
Cool still air under quiet spell
Serves steadiness of mind to pray.
Raising heart and offering flower
Heralds the evening vesper hour.
Lit lamp on sacred altars stand.
Chants match the mood at hand.
Day’s deeds held as bouquet sweet,
To lay at Lord’s eternal feet.
Someday our sun will go to sleep.
Our boat will sink into the deep
Mourn not as your vessel lies,
For we shall see a new sunrise.
Prayer
O Lord, reveal Yourself to me in those auspicious times of day and night. Let me surrender my little boat completely to You as the sun yields to the beauty of evening.
