What are we but conscious folk

Playing different roles bespoke

Real worthy status lies behind

The simple labels “I” and mine

One part it plays is well known

Attention is a beam that’s thrown

In any direction sweeps the field

Where deeper layers get revealed

In joy, steadily, on itself turned

Something new is then learned

Taste of off duty poise and peace

Where milieu of role’s labels cease

Prayer

O Lord let me beam the searchlight of attention steadily on Thee who sits smiling with delight and self-effulgent. Reveal how you become flesh and dwell as objects and move in time.
