Thought
Can there be love if there’s hate?
Can love exclude, push or shove?
As long as enemies there berate
Or wish them ill, there is no love
Can we offer love when struck?
Or offer a watch-thief a clock?
Wavering not on whim or luck
Real love’s steady, not ad hoc
What blocks this pouring out?
A fragile ego’s reference point
Attacking shadows for to rout
Will them entrench and re-anoint
But walk in faith to glorious sun
Beauty beheld in pouring grace
Shadows obediently come along
Supreme shines as love’s embrace
Prayer
O Lord, fill me with thy beauty, destroy my selfish love. Let me catch Thy breath and glide effortlessly on Thy wings.
